My Grandpa Yong Mun Sen
Apr 24th, 2010 by Steven
I have mentioned about my grandpa Yong Mun Sen in previous blogs. Thought it would be good to upload a photo of him so that readers have a visual perception of my distinguished grandpa, who is acknowledged as the Father of Malaysian Painting. .
I only have faint recollection of the occasion that I met my grandpa in Penang. I was still in primary school then. (BTW one of my aunts say that I resemble my grandpa!)
I’ve seen a copy of this image in a photo album that my dad (grandpa’s eldest son) kept. This is one of the rare photos showing my grandpa pursuing his passion for painting.

Grandpa was known for his broad-brush water-colour paintings, especially depicting rural-scapes, fishing villages, plantations and boats, that he did on Penang island. He did some oil paintings which were influenced by the 19th century French post-Impressionist Paul Gauguin.
