Serene Meditation @ Erawan Museum
Nov 28th, 2009 by Steven
One of the places on our tour itinerary was Chang Erawan (Erawan Museum) on the outskirt of Bangkok, along the Sukhumvit Road/Highway. The museum is actually in the form of a giant-sized 3-headed elephant - a 5-storey structure. More about this place in a later post.
Visitors and devotees who make their way up the staircase to the ‘belly’ and then to the elephant head will be greeted by a beautiful hall lined with antiques, artefacts and relics as well as Buddha statues from different eras. The dimly-lit hall with its calm and peaceful atmosphere is perfect for meditating.
Incidentally, would you believe that Sukhumvit Road stretches some 350 km in distance? It starts in Bangkok at the intersection of the Rama 1 and Phloen Chit roads, passing through the city’s shopping and commercial district. Exiting the city, it follows a coastal route passing through various provinces, including the beach resort of Pattaya, before ending at Trat, a provincial capital in eastern Thailand, a 90-minute bus ride from the Cambodian border crossing.

This is the only candid shot I took of this devotee who was meditating … the shuttle sound can be clearly heard in the hall. The original Raw image was tweaked in Photoshop to enhance the lighting, etc. <Canon EOS 50D: ISO 1600; f/2.8; 1/30 sec>
