Steamboat for the Soul

Cameron Highlands is not only well known for its fresh vegetables, strawberries, etc. Many tourists will not miss its steamboat meals. Somehow, the fresh homegrown leafy-green vegetables add oomph to this hot-pot meal. What’s more, the cool temperate-like climate enhances the delight.
While most restaurants use butane gas as a fuel source, there are some which still use charcoal fire to bring the broth to boil. I ‘d searched the web for info on the origin of this cuisine but didn’t find the answer I was looking for. Some say that it originated from northern China … in the days gone by, it was common for villagers to gather for communal meals. See here for more info on steamboat.

We opted for the herbal broth (additional RM2 per pax) instead of the yin yang (chicken broth & tom yam) … taken at the Hong Kong Restaurant, Main Road, Tanah Rata … operated by Penang-born Angie Ng since 30+ years … accidentally deleted the pix of Angie, lol

A few shop lots from HK Restaurant is a South Indian eatery - Restoran Sri Brinchang - which also has (halal) steamboat in its menu

In Brinchang town, there are at least 5-8 steamboat restaurants in the same locality
