Nasi Kerabu @ U-Lang Corner, Kota Bharu
Jul 15th, 2009 by Steven
When I’m in Kota Bharu, I look forward to having lunch at U Lang Corner. This place - located along Wakaf Meb Zainab; beside the white-washed KB Guesthouse - serves authentic Kelantanese (or maybe a taste of Thai ) Nasi Kerabu (or Khao Jam in Thai). One has to have an acquired liking for this cuisine; it’s different from the nasi kerabu I had eaten in KL. Imagine being served green-coloured rice that is cooked and blended with some 40 types of herbs; topped with sliced onion, strips of ginger flower, chopped basil leaves, raw bean sprouts, cucumber, cabbage, desiccated coconut and shredded fish (I think it’s ikan kembong). Plus fresh chili paste.
U-Lang Corner also serves laksa … but most customers go for the nasi kerabu. Was told that the owner’s son (and daughter-in-law) has migrated to the Klang Valley and opened a U-Lang branch in Bandar Puteri Puchong … I will patronize this place one day to see if lives up to the KB standard. Don’t expect the same pricing as charged at the original stall.

My nasi kerabu with generous serving of rice and an extra piece of fried chicken @ RM3.50

If you don’t fancy chicken, there’s the fried ikan kembong @ RM3.50Â
