Mille Crêpe Cake @ Food Foundry
Jun 13th, 2009 by Steven
The first time I tasted Mille Crêpes was at Food Foundry, the eatery located within Happy Mansion in PJ’s section 17. I can’t find a word to describe the feeling and sensation as I sank my teeth into a spoonful of this heavenly, silky smooth ‘multi-storied’ crepe.
A food writer wrote the following in the New York Times (2005):
… lacy crepes layered with clouds of whipped-cream-lightened pastry cream. The top crepe is spread with sugar and caramelized like creme brulee. A fork plunged into a slice slides like a shovel through fresh snow. You get a whiff of smoky sugar, then layer after silky-sweet layer. …The cream itself has to be firm enough so the cake doesn’t collapse. The crepes have to be baked thin enough so that when you cut through with a fork, it can’t be an impediment.
Food Foundry’s Mille Crêpe Cake certainly lives up to the description in the NYT article.

The vanilla crepe is priced at RM8 a piece; RM9 for the strawberry and chocolate crepes

Heard some folks try to count the number of layers in a piece of crepe cake! BTW the crepe cake mentioned in the NYT article consists of 20 layers.
