Happy Deepavali
Oct 27th, 2008 by Steven
The Hindu community celebrates the Festival of Lights - Deepavali. I took the opportunity to visit the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Dhevasthanam along Jalan Tun HS Lee (formerly High Street) in Chinatown. Originally erected on another site in 1873, it is probably the oldest Hindu temple in Malaysia.
As expected. there were a many photographers capturing the temple’s happenings. Here are my first lot of photos.

The 75-foot 5-tiered Gopuram (tower) at the entrance is decorated with 228 Hindu deities, sculpted by artisans from southern India.<Canon 350D: ISO 200; F/13; 1/320s; focal length 16 mm>
There were so many shoes, slippers and sandals on both sides of the entrance as devotees and visitors walk barefoot inside the temple compound

Met this charming 12-year-old girl, Shaktishah, who came with her family from Cheras <Canon 350D: ISO 200; F/6.3; 1/125s>
