To Teluk Gong for Seafood
Sep 22nd, 2008 by Steven
Having about the seafood restaurants in Teluk Gong - Coconut Flower Seafood Restaurant, in particular - from friends and colleagues, it was a matter of time before I made a trip to the place to see and saviour the much talk about seafood. It’s supposed to ‘pheng’ (cheap), ‘laeng’ (looks good) and ‘chaeng’ (nice to eat). We shall find out!
And so, one fine weekend, we (as in my wife, daughter and I) drove in search of Teluk Gong via the Kesas Highway. Friends advised that if we followed the signboards, we should get there. And we did find the place. There are a couple of restaurants in the vicinity, but it seems Coconut Flower is more popular. It has a big seating capacity with ample car park space. As the narrow road leading to the restaurants is not well lit at night, I would advise you get there before sunset if you plan to go there for dinner. (If you’ve GPS installed on your mobile phone, set it to N2 57.681 E101 23.826; otherwise call Coconut Flower at 03-3134 1218/2886 or 016-3368553 if you get lost.) BTW, we encountered heavy vehicles - trucks and container trailers - during the drive to our destination.

I’d imagined that Coconut Flower fronted a beach or the sea; however, it was not to be. Actually, Kampung Teluk Gong is in an industrial estate. Still, there’re plenty of coconut palms around to give the dinning-by-the-beach feeling.

Started with the Lala Beehoon (RM10). The chef was a bit generous with the cooking oil. <Sony Ericsson W810i>

Baked Salted Crabs (RM30 for 3)…not bad. Try and down them with toddy (locally brewed fermented coconut drink). <Sony Ericsson W810i>

Tiger Prawns in coconut milk (RM36 for 2 pieces)…like tom yam style but not spicy. <Sony Ericsson W810i>

OMG, fresh, juicy and succulent prawn
Now, will we go back to Kg Teluk Gong? Let me put it this way - despite the good reviews, personally I find there’s no compelling reason to do so; drive all the way to KTG (not forgetting the toll charges and petrol consumption). Although prices seem to to cheaper at Coconut Flower (and with good reviews), there are better seafood restaurants within KL and PJ, lol. Still, give the place a go for the fun of it.
