Borneo Coffee, Anyone?
Jul 19th, 2008 by Steven
Came across a quaint-looking coffee and tea cafe located at one end of Carpenter Street, near the red wall Chinese temple on the connecting main road. Its signboard reads Black Bean Coffee & Tea Company, but popularly known as Borneo Cafe to local and tourists.
It’s housed in a rather small pre-war shoplot. Only a few tables available; kind of make the place a cozy corner. There were some foreigners and ‘local’ tourists when I passed by.
As I’d a prior appointment, time didn’t permit me to pop in and try its roasted Sarawak-grown Liberica coffee (which I was told is blended with the aromatic Robusta beans) for a more exquisite flavour and taste. Will certainly make it a point to go there the next time I’m in Kuching.
Price-wise, it is cheaper than Starbucks and Coffee Bean. Although Borneo Cafe doesn’t exude similar ambiance as the more upmarket cafes, I love its unpretentious, down-to-earth setting. It also exudes a nostalgic atmosphere.
