What a Feeling

I love to travel in an aircraft during sunrise and sunset. From the cockpit window, the sight outside is simply fantastic. This photo was taken on a flight from Kuching to KL. When the Airbus 330 took off, the sun had already set. Shot this at 7.03pm when the aircraft had reached its cruising altitude of 31,000 feet or so. Light from the setting sun was still filtering through over the horizon. Part of the plane’s engine can be seen in the lower left foreground. <ISO-200; F/2.8; 1/30 sec>

Took this shot around noon through glass pane of my hotel room’s window, after I had checked into the Hilton Hotel. Looking at the city’s Chinatown area. You can see part of the Sarawak River on the right. Rain clouds were gathering in the yonder. It rained about 1 hour later. <ISO-80; F/4; 1/320 sec>

6.24pm. With failing light and a threatening thunder storm approaching, I managed to get this shot of paddlers practising for the forthcoming annual Sarawak Regatta in August. I used a lamp-post for support. <ISO-200; F/2.8; 1/10 sec>

Shot through the window; taken the next day at 7.11am - I think the mountain in the far distance is Bukit Berapit. <ISO-80; F/2.8; 1/60 sec>

Took this at 7.40am (again through the window) before I checked out. The State Legislative Building, under construction. On the right is Mount Santubong, which serves as the backdrop for the annual Rainforest World Music Festival, held at the Sarawak Cultural Village (located at the foothills). How I wish I could have been at the Festival, sigh! The building is underexposed as I had metered against the sky for the exposure setting. <ISO-80; F/3.3; 1/125 sec>
