I Love Krabi - Poda Island

Lunching on Koh Poda
A small but beautiful island of 1km in diameter, Koh Poda is about 8 km frm Ao Nang. It’s encircled by a soft white sandy beach. The water is crystal clear, with a coral reef lying about 20 or30 metres from the beach front. I have seen an aerial map showing a sandbar linking Koh Poda to Koh Tup, which means it may be possible to walk across the sea!
The main beach – where the boats were berthed - was rather crowded with holiday seekers when we arrived around 1pm. Those who came by charted private boats and preferring more privacy could head to the more secluded part of the island.
We made the longest stop-over – 1-1/2 hours - on this island for lunch. Our lunch box contained rice, a small chicken drumstick, minced chicken and vegetable, and a bag of sweet chili sauce; plus a bottle of ice-chilled water. It was like eating roadside hawker food, and tasted good. After all the energy-sapping activities, any meal would taste delicious. Later when we boarded the boat for our next island stop, our guide served chilled pineapple.

If you’re still stricken with hunger pang, there is a restaurant in the vicinity. Alternatively, there were a few mobile food vendors who came in longtail boats. Business was good for an ice-cream seller, who was walking up and down the beach.
We were told that monkeys would come for a share of the food but there was none in sight that afternoon. They probably have a hearty meal earlier in the morning.

Holiday seekers arriving by the boat loads

You can rent a kayak and tour round the island(s)…in fact you can row from Ao Nang to Poda Island in about 3 hours or so, but make sure you smear yourself with sunblock cream

A rocky limestone islet about 200-300 m from Koh Poda

Boats lined up on the beach front

A mobile food vendor with a wide selection of food and drinks

Grilled chicken, anyone? Or Pad Thai? Just like street hawker food

I had to be careful when walking on the beach to avoid stepping on sunbathers or kicking sand into their faces

A young beach toddler under her dad’s watchful eyes

As on the other beaches, there was no lack of topfree babes on Koh Poda too

Time to make our way to the boat…and head to Phra Nang Beach
