Eric’s Deli Paradise @ Hartamas Shopping Mall

Malaysians, especially those residing in the cities and bigger towns, appear to have an affinity with Hong Kong, Japanese, Italian and Korean cuisines. Otherwise, how would you explain for the mushrooming of such restaurants and cafés? In fact, Hong Kong celebrities have also been opening restaurants here. Perhaps, they are motivated by the countless number of HK-style cafes that are doing roaring business.
The latest to join the bandwagon is Jackie Chan. This superstar and celebrity, who has a string of gyms in KL called Celebrity Fitness, will be in KL on Oct 27 to open his own café – Jackie Chan’s Café – at the Starhill Gallery in Bukit Bintang. On its menu are coffees, teas, fruit juices, soft drinks, sandwiches, sweets, salads, cakes and pastries.
Okay, let’s leave JC aside and turn our focus to another HK celebrity, who’s described as “short, fat, not-so-handsome” and “everything physical that an actor shouldn’t be”. But fame and fortune he has; and he’s Eric Tsang Chi Wai (born April 1953).
Eric or Ah Wai has a restaurant KL that bears his name – Eric’s Seafood & Steamboat Restaurant. Registered as Eric Deli Paradise (KL) Sdn Bhd, it’s located on the ground floor of Hartamas Shopping Centre. The restaurant, which serves dim sum in the morning, also incorporates a juice bar called Colour Juice.
My family decided to try out the place recently. When we arrived we saw a number of tables with diners having steamboat; we opted for a simple à la carte meal. I have read of negative comments posted on some blogs, but my family has no complaints. Service was good and the dishes were served quite promptly. However, we thought that the serving portions were quite small. Our meal cost RM123.05 inclusive of a pot of Tik Guan Yin tea and taxes.

Braised Herbal Chicken in Claypot with Ling Zhi Mushrooms (RM38)

Fried Stuffed Bean Curd with Oats (RM18)

Steamed Egg with Preserved Century and Salted Eggs, and Dried Scallops (RM15)

HK Style Fried Vegetable - yin choy (RM15)

Are the rest Eric’s co-partners?

hi juz want to know is this place halal? im looking for a halal dim sum or fine dining chinese style thats not in hotels! ironically i juz came back fm London where I can easily find a few halal dim sums (run by muslim chinese) but so hard to find here. do u have recommendations? tq
Eric’s Deli is a non-halal outlet. Come to think of it, I’ve not come across a halal dim sum resturant that is not located in a hotel premises. While I’m not very certain, there could be a halal dim sum restaurant in Plaza Damas, Sri Hartamas. Can any reader confirm this?
BTW I was told the Qing Zhen Chinese Muslim Restaurant (03 2147 0888) at the Novotel Hydro Majestic serves excellent dim sum.
Cheerio.
Thanks Steven! I tried the buffet dim sum at Quality Hotel KL - was ok too.
Will check out your recommendation!
