Tony Roma’s ‘Famous For Ribs’
Oct 4th, 2007 by Steven
Even though Tony Roma’s local franchise partner has made some variation to its menu – by excluding the famed flame-grilled ‘baby’ pork ribs, in particular – its fare of beef ribs, seafood and steak dishes should keep diners satisfied and coming back for more. This is my conclusion after having my first dining experience at Tony Roma’s in Cineleisure Damansara. This is the second TR outlet, which opened in May 2007, after the Sunway Pyramid outlet in October last year. The latest additions are at The Gardens in the Mid Valley Megamall and the Pavilion in Bukit Bintang.
I recall reading that Grandpolitan, the local franchisee for Tony Roma’s, also owns the home-grown chain of Manhattan Fish Market restaurants. Having successfully branded MFM, there’s no reason why they can’t do the same with TR.
To me, Tony Roma’s is in the same league as TGIF and Chili’s Grill & Bar. To a certain extent, I should include Outback Steakhouse as well. It’s hard to rank them; it boils down to personal preference and taste. As the saying goes, “one man’s meat is another man’s poison”. Having said that, the fact that Tony Roma’s has been around for 35 years with some 220 outlets in 32 countries certainly speaks for its quality and standard. Moreover, it has to live up to its tagline ‘The Best of American Casual Dining’.
BTW if you plan to dine at Tony Roma’s, I’d suggest that you phone ahead to make table reservation. When my family arrived at TR around 7pm, it was a ‘full house’. I put my name on the queue list and went window shopping. Some 50 minutes later, a staff called me on my mobile to inform that our table is ready.
