The next time you are at the 1 Utama Shopping Centre, and you find yourself undecided as to where to dine, you may want to try SOHO By Jun. It’s located in the ‘Old Wing’, at the far end of the pathway that leads to the One World Hotel.

If my guess is correct, SOHO is owned (or conceived) by Jun Low, a former Singaporean stockbroker, who created Bread Story, the chain of boutique bakery which started business in 2002. The first Bread Story outlet was located in Kuala Lumpur’s Mid Valley Megamall.

SOHO bears some of Jun’s signature trademarks that you see in Bread Story. The décor and ambiance project the feel that it’s targeted at the upper market – quite like Bread Story. Matched, of course, by its prices. At SOHO, the theme is simply a black and white affair. Black tables, white chairs and even B&W images of faces. Complemented with bright lighting and extensive use of wall mirrors.

I didn’t like the table design – the top is supported by a single chunky pillar, giving little space for your feet and knees. Courting couples will find it difficult to play footsies under the tables.

The menu is a fusion of Hong Kong and Shanghai cuisines, which is quite similar to Dragon-I. Dim Sum is served in the morning; not available in the evening.

Now, let me share with you what we ordered. BTW had to be discreet in taking the photos as my son told of incidences where the staff had requested patrons to refrain from taking photos.
