‘Ka Fei’ Anyone?

Of late, we have seen a mushrooming of kopitiams – albeit not the traditional, typical kopitiams of the years gone by – but the so-called pseudo-kopitiams. To quote an entry in Wikipedia…
Recently a new breed of kopitiams have sprung up. The popularity of the old fashioned outlets along with society’s obsession with nostalgia and increasing affluence has led to the revival of these pseudo-kopitiams. The new kopitiams are fast-food outlets which are reminiscent of the old kopitiams in terms of decor, but are usually built in a more modern, hygienic setting such as a shopping mall…
Among the latest to start business is Ka Fei Tiam. It’s located on the ground floor of the Digital Mall in Section 14, Petaling Jaya; the space was previously occupied by Coffee Bean, which has recently relocated to the Jaya 33 shopping mall.
Ka Fei (Cantonese for coffee) Tiam offers a wide selection on its menu, ranging from rice dishes to noodles, chicken chop and toast bread. My family had lunch here today. My wife ordered Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet with Rice while my son ate Chicken Chop with French Fries, while yours truly chose Thai Fried Rice.
It’s thumbs up for the tasty meal, though my son swears that he still prefers Kluang Station’s Chicken Chop.
Address: Ground Floor, Digital Mall, Jalan 14/20, 46100 Petaling Jaya
It appears the kopitiam culture has spread far and wide. I chanced upon the website of ‘Malaysia Kopitiam’ which is located in

Thai Fried Rice with fried egg, fish fillet, salted fish and cili padi (RM7.00). Teh Susu Ice and Kopi Cham Teh Ice (RM3.00 a glass)

Chicken Chop with French Fries (RM11.00)

Sweet & Sour Fish Fillet with rice (RM9.00)
